Jeanne Bencich Nations is a renowned professional wild horse and landscape photographer.
I always look to catch the light with vibrant colors that glorify God's creations. I work to save our wild horses from extinction on our public lands. It is a labor of love to be the voice for the voiceless and, through my camera lens, bring the images to the people to create awareness of an American treasure, the wild native horse. I love interacting with the free-roaming horses where they are still free and conveying the same emotions I felt being around them through my camera lens for others to enjoy.
I also tell another side of the story: the wild horses being abused and forced off their rightful lands. They are chased by a helicopter in roundups to remove them from the land in favor of livestock, destroying public lands. The government no longer protects them according to the law. There are now more wild horses in the Bureau Of Land Management holding prisons throughout the West than on public land. The wild horses enrich the American people's lives and symbolize freedom and our Western Heritage. We must keep them on the land. They are not meant to be held in feedlot conditions for the rest of their lives or sent to slaughter.
